Central America Eyes South Dakota Ethanol Success

Central America Eyes South Dakota Ethanol Success

By Scout Nelson

South Dakota is hosting a special event featuring the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) and the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council, where they will host individuals from Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama to showcase how corn can be used as fuel for cars.

Important public officials and businesses from their countries are visiting to learn about corn cultivation, ethanol production, and its use in cars. They are considering implementing similar practices in their countries in 2024-2025.

Now, this isn't the first time ACE has done something like this. Ron Lamberty, the top marketing guy at ACE, talked about how they did the same thing with visitors from Mexico in Iowa back in 2019. They show these guests how the whole "from corn to car" journey works here in the U.S., clearing up any wrong ideas they might've heard about ethanol.

Chad Blindauer, the leader of the South Dakota Corn group, emphasizes the significant role of ethanol in reducing pollution and addressing other issues faced by these countries, as it is a cleaner-burning fuel.

The U.S. Grains Council's Federico Salcedo highlights the importance of visiting ethanol production sites in Latin America. He believes these trips provide visitors with a close-up view of the benefits of ethanol for people, the environment, and their pockets, fostering a sense of excitement among the local community.

Guests in South Dakota learned about ethanol production and usage, gaining new ideas to take home. The journey of a small corn kernel was unexpectedly exciting.
