Crop knowledge blooms in winter - SDSU webinars

Crop knowledge blooms in winter - SDSU webinars

By Scout Nelson

Forget braving the winter elements for valuable agricultural knowledge! The SDSU Extension Agronomy team brings you Crop Hour webinars, a virtual feast of expert insights throughout the winter months.

"Nine weeks of pure crop wisdom await," says Sara Bauder, SDSU Extension Forage Field Specialist. "Each week delves into a specific theme, with daily speaker sessions covering everything from pest management (weeds, insects, diseases) to nutrient management, variety trials, climate updates, soil health, markets, and more."

This isn't just passive listening; it's a front-row seat to South Dakota State University's cutting-edge research. "We aim to deliver the latest and most relevant information to producers, and anyone interested," Bauder emphasizes. "It's about planning ahead for a successful season, identifying potential challenges, and exploring new possibilities."

And the best part? Crop Hour is a one-stop shop for Certified Crop Advisers seeking continuing education credits. "Attend live or new this year, access the sessions on-demand and earn those valuable credits," Bauder adds.

But the expertise doesn't just come from within SDSU Extension. "We welcome guest speakers from other universities and industry experts to share their unique knowledge," Bauder says.

And don't worry, interactivity isn't lost in the virtual format. "We encourage questions from participants," Bauder explains. "Researchers don't always anticipate the concerns producers might have, so their input is invaluable."

So, ditch the winter blues and embrace the warmth of knowledge. Crop Hour webinars offer convenience, insights, and a chance to connect with the experts shaping the future of agriculture.

Mark your calendars! Crop Hour runs from January 9 to March 7, 2024, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10 a.m. CST. Head to the SDSU Extension website to register and dive into a winter of agricultural learning.
