Join CAFO environmental training in Huron on December 6th

Operators of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) have a unique opportunity for environmental training on December 6, 2023, at the Crossroads Convention Center in Huron. This essential training session, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 4:45 p.m., is a collaborative effort from experts at South Dakota State University Extension, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Keynote speakers include SDSU's distinguished professor and Extension Swine Specialist, Bob Thaler, who will shed light on livestock nutrition and its impact on manure content. Anthony Bly, an SDSU Extension Soils Field Specialist, will cover the management of nitrogen and phosphorous in manure land applications.

Other topics like soil health, water and air management, and the DANR’s livestock permit program will be addressed by experts such as Kent Vlieger, Jason Roggow, John McMaine, and Xufei Yang.

This training is not only crucial for compliance with South Dakota's environmental permit requirements but also beneficial for anyone interested in sustainable agriculture practices.

The session costs $50, covering lunch, breaks, and training materials. It fulfills the training requirement for permit holders and is highly recommended for manure applicators, producers, and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
