Join the 2023 Specialty Crop Field Day at SDSU

Mark your calendar for an enlightening experience! The 2023 Specialty Crop Field Day is slated for Sept. 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. CDT. The venue is SDSU Specialty Crop Research Field-South in Brookings. And guess what? It's free, and there’s no need to register beforehand.

Find the venue east of the SDSU Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at 1601 University Blvd. For easy navigation, follow the “SDSU Extension Horticulture” signs. The event is open to everyone - just remember to keep pets at home.

The day is packed with activities. There will be presentations and tours focused on vegetable and flower production. Discover field trials of cucumbers, onions, and cut flowers. They also highlight the integration of broccoli, pepper, and broccolini with cover crops. Tours will feature a new high tunnel and the SDSU Local Foods Education Center.

The event will also feature diverse educational exhibits. From the beautiful McCrory Gardens to the insightful SDSU Native Plant Initiative and the SDSU Plant Diagnostic Clinic, there's something for everyone. Plus, SDSU horticulture students will be proudly displaying posters detailing their summer endeavors.

Kristine Lang, an assistant professor and SDSU Extension Consumer Horticulture Specialist, emphasizes that the event serves as a networking platform, and for more information, visit the SDSU Extension Events page and search "field day".

This day of discovery is supported by both the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

For any more details or queries, feel free to reach out to Kristine Lang, the go-to person for this event.
