The South Dakota Soybean Association (SDSA) is encouraging soybean farmers to play an active role in shaping their industry by joining the SDSA Board of Directors. The upcoming board elections, scheduled during the SDSA Annual Meeting on December 4, provide a significant opportunity for farmers to influence agricultural policies and advocate for the soybean farming community.
SDSA President Kevin Deinert emphasized the importance of farmer participation, noting that their firsthand experiences are crucial for strengthening the industry. He invites growers to represent the interests of South Dakota’s soybean farmers both statewide and nationally.
Enhanced Representation Through Updated Districts
To ensure equitable representation, SDSA has revised its board district structure, increasing the number from seven to nine. This change aligns with the growth in soybean acreage and matches the SD Soybean Checkoff districts. These adjustments reflect the diverse regions of the state, encompassing counties from Hanson to Butte and from McCook to Roberts.
Positions Open for Election
This year, board seats open for election include multiple geographic districts, offering numerous positions for interested candidates. These include specific district seats and two at-large seats, ensuring a broad representation of South Dakota’s soybean community.
Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible, candidates must be SDSA members and must have cultivated an average of at least 40 acres of soybeans over the past three years. Residency within the respective district is also required. Interested members are encouraged to apply by November 27, 2024.
Farmers interested in these positions can obtain more information by contacting the SDSA. This engagement not only allows them to contribute to the governance of their industry but also ensures their voices are heard in critical policy discussions.
By stepping up to serve on the SDSA Board of Directors, farmers gain a unique platform to advocate for their needs and help steer the direction of the soybean industry in South Dakota. The association remains committed to supporting the industry through research-based recommendations and aims to foster an environment of proactive leadership and sustainable farming practices.
