SDFB Scholarship Recognizes Passionate Students in Agriculture

The South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) has recently announced the recipients of the annual SDFB Scholarship. This year, a total of $7,500 will be awarded to deserving individuals.

The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students who themselves or their parents/guardians have been active members of the South Dakota Farm Bureau for at least two years. Applicants are considered for either an agriculture-focused or community-focused scholarship, depending on their chosen major and experience in agriculture.

The scholarship aims to support students who demonstrate a passion for agriculture and a commitment to their rural communities. Krystil Smith, the Executive Director of SDFB, extended her congratulations to the winners of the scholarship. She expressed pride in the scholarship program and its ability to recognize and support young individuals who are dedicated to agriculture and rural development.

Agriculture focused scholarship recipients included the following:

  • Emily Robbins of Aurora, South Dakota
  • Mercedes Schueler of Willmar, Minnesota
  • Owen Bovill of Alcester, South Dakota
  • Danika Gordon of Whitewood, South Dakota
  • Danielle Nowell of Hitchcock, South Dakota

Community-focused scholarship recipients included the following:

  • Morgan Mackaben of Belle Fourche, South Dakota
  • Landry Haugen of Sturgis, South Dakota
  • Keeleigh Reis-Elwood of Reliance, South Dakota
  • Bailey Spaans of Armour, South Dakota
  • Mallory Valburg of Draper, South Dakota

The South Dakota Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Richard and Agnes Rostrum, residents of Kimball, South Dakota. Richard Rostrum, a former president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau from 1975 to 1995, played a pivotal role in the establishment of the fund.

Overall, the SDFB Scholarship is an opportunity for students who have a strong interest in agriculture and a connection to the South Dakota Farm Bureau to receive financial support for their educational pursuits.
