South Dakota State University (SDSU) has once again emerged as the champions in the realm of quarter-scale tractors. Building on the success of their football team's national title win, the students of SDSU's quarter-scale tractor team secured national honors for the second consecutive year and the third time in the past five years.
Participating in the International Quarter-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition organized by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, the students showcased their skills at the Expo Gardens Fairgrounds in Peoria, Illinois, from June 1 to 4.
Outshining 18 other teams, SDSU not only claimed victory in the overall competition but also secured top positions in performance, presentation, and design judging. They achieved second place in durability and third place in maneuverability, tractor pull, and defense of design. Additionally, the team received accolades for their craftsmanship and ergonomics.
Douglas Prairie, the instructor and adviser of the 20-member club, praised the winning team for their dedication and strategic approach. Setting their sights on another national championship a year ago, the team tirelessly invested thousands of hours outside of class, including late nights during the competition, to proudly bring the championship trophy back to Brookings.
