SDSU extension welcomes new range specialist Kaylee wheeler

By Scout Nelson

SDSU Extension is buzzing with excitement as they introduce their latest member, Kaylee Wheeler, taking on the mantle of a Range Field Specialist. With a unique blend of range science, animal science, and economics, Wheeler aspires to assist producers in optimizing their livestock grazing endeavors.

Kaylee, a passionate animal science and ruminant nutrition expert from Wood Lake, Nebraska, has a bachelor's in animal science and a master's in ruminant nutrition from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She actively creates and shares Extension materials at UNL, demonstrating her dedication to holistic learning and bringing transformative insights to her role.

Based at the SDSU Extension Pierre Regional Center, Wheeler is eager to acquaint herself with South Dakota's diverse landscape. "Building relationships with producers is high on my agenda," shares Wheeler, who views her role as a servant leader for the community.

Her addition to the team has been welcomed warmly. Sandy Smart, a prominent figure at SDSU Extension, praises her robust ranching background and her comprehensive understanding of range management. She's all set to bring a fresh perspective to the region, especially along the banks of the Missouri River.
