SDSU hosts monthly cattle webinar series

By Scout Nelson

South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension has launched Cattle HQ, a live webinar series aimed at providing cattle producers with accessible and expert-led management insights.

These webinars, available via Zoom, will be held monthly on the third Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. CST throughout 2025. Registration is required but free, and recordings will be available for on-demand viewing.

Each webinar will feature an expert discussing relevant topics and the latest research from SDSU Extension. The inaugural session, scheduled for January 16, 2025, will focus on winter cattle management strategies and will be led by Warren Rusche, SDSU Extension Feedlot Management Specialist.

Julie Walker, professor and SDSU Extension Beef Specialist, highlighted the interactive nature of the series. “It’s also a way for us to highlight some of the cool things SDSU is doing,” she said, emphasizing the opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share experiences.

The webinars align with SDSU Extension’s Cattle HQ podcast, which provides biweekly episodes catering to cow/calf producers. “We’re trying to meet the needs of producers and discuss topics that are relevant that time of year,” said Erin DeHaan, assistant professor and SDSU Extension Beef Specialist.

According to Madison Kovarna, SDSU Extension Beef Nutrition Field Specialist, the webinar and podcast work together to deliver valuable information in flexible formats, ensuring that producers can learn at their convenience.
