SDSU Quarter-Scale Tractor Team Wins Back-to-Back International Championships

The quarter-scale tractor team from South Dakota State University (SDSU) has secured consecutive victories as international champions at the renowned International Quarter-Scale Tractor Student Design Competition held in Peoria, Illinois. Outperforming 19 competing teams.

The team won multiple awards in various categories at the competition, in addition to the overall award:

• 1st place in performance events (tractor pulling, durability, maneuverability)

• 1st place in team presentation

• 1st place in design judging

• 2nd place in durability

• 3rd place in maneuverability

• 3rd place in tractor pulling

• 3rd place in defense of design

• Craftsmanship award

The rigorous journey to becoming international champions requires dedicated effort from the team's approximately 20 members, who invest numerous hours throughout the academic year. Starting with just an engine and rear wheels, the students embark on the task of building a complete tractor from scratch. Through a meticulous design process, they analyze past tractor models and incorporate successful elements while introducing innovative ideas.

The comprehensive experience of designing and engineering a functioning tractor equips students with valuable skills that will benefit them throughout their professional careers. With two consecutive wins under their belt, the SDSU team is eagerly anticipating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the coming year.
