Axton Betz-Hamilton, an assistant professor at South Dakota State University, has been named the Mary Ellen Edmonson Financial Educator of the Year by the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education.
Betz-Hamilton, who is the undergraduate program coordinator for consumer affairs in the School of Health and Consumer Sciences, specializes in familial identity theft. Her own personal experience is detailed in her book, "The Less People Know About Us," which won the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime in 2020.
In the classroom, Betz-Hamilton teaches a variety of courses, from financial counseling to personal income taxation.
The award, which includes a $500 cash prize, was presented at the association's 2022 symposium in Orlando, Fla.
