The Managing Soil: Maximizing Profit Meeting is set for December 10, 2024, at the Wagner Movie Theater Banquet Room in Wagner, South Dakota. Running from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., this meeting offers a full day of expert presentations on soil health, crop management, and sustainable farming practices.
Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs) can earn continuing education credits through attendance, making this an ideal event for industry professionals.
The agenda begins with registration at 9:15 a.m., followed by the first presentation on soil health at 9:45 a.m. The session, “Tillage, Rotation, and Soil Health,” will highlight practices to enhance soil conditions using reduced tillage and diverse crop rotations. This approach supports long-term soil productivity and sustainability.
At 11:00 a.m., a presentation titled "Local Problems Need a Local Solution - DIY Boosting Beneficial Microbes" will focus on methods to increase beneficial soil microbes for healthier soil. This talk emphasizes localized techniques for fostering a resilient and thriving soil microbiome.
A lunch break follows, after which the Southeast Farm Board will hold its annual meeting and elections from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Afterward, the event resumes with a presentation on profitably managing soil, crops, and cattle. This session offers practical advice on balancing soil health and livestock integration to maximize productivity.
The final presentation at 2:00 p.m. discusses grazing annual forages and cover crops, outlining how grazing practices support soil health and provide alternative feeding options for cattle. The day concludes with a panel discussion at 3:00 p.m., providing attendees with an interactive platform to ask questions and discuss ideas.
