South Dakota Farmers Union is offering a unique opportunity for students passionate about agriculture through the Farming for the Future Scholarship. With a total of $15,000 in scholarship funds available, this contest is open to high school seniors and students of all majors pursuing two-year and four-year college degrees and beyond. The deadline to apply is October 6.
The scholarship contest is structured as a seven-week social media advocacy challenge, awarding a $100 scholarship each week to the weekly winner. The overall contest winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship, contributing to the total of $15,000 awarded to participants who creatively advocate for agriculture online.
“South Dakota is full of students who grew up rural and are passionate about agriculture, this scholarship gives them an opportunity to advocate,” said Samantha Bowman, Education Program Specialist for South Dakota Farmers Union.
SDFU, the state’s largest agriculture organization, has been committed to education and supporting future generations since its establishment in 1914. The Farming for the Future Scholarship continues this legacy by encouraging students to use their voices in support of agriculture.
Today’s students are tomorrow’s farmers, ranchers, agronomists, rural nurses, teachers, electricians, animal nutritionists – these students are our future,” said Karla Hofhenke, SDFU Executive Director. “The future of our rural communities depends upon them receiving a quality education, and Farmers Union wants to help support their educational journey.”
Scholarship winners will be announced weekly on the South Dakota Farmers Union’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
