Explore local foods at rapid city conference

By Scout Nelson

The 2024 South Dakota Local Foods Conference will take place from Friday, November 8 to Saturday, November 9 at the Journey Museum, located at 222 New York Street in Rapid City, South Dakota. This annual event brings together producers and supporters of local foods to foster education and valuable networking opportunities.

For more than ten years, the South Dakota Local Foods Conference has played a crucial role in supporting the growth of the local food movement. Attendees benefit from the knowledge and expertise of leaders within the South Dakota Local Foods Coalition, which includes partners such as Dakota Rural Action, South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension, McCrory Gardens, Cash Cow Co-Op, Southeast Council of Governments, USDA Natural Resource and Conservation Service, and the North Central Regional Food Business Center.

The conference offers participants a chance to engage in educational sessions, learn about local food systems, and connect with fellow producers and advocates. With a strong focus on enhancing local food production and distribution, the event encourages collaboration and innovation within South Dakota’s agricultural communities.

This year’s conference promises to continue its tradition of fostering knowledge and building networks. Whether you’re a seasoned local food producer or someone new to the movement, the South Dakota Local Foods Conference is an excellent opportunity to expand your understanding of local food systems and to make meaningful connections.
