Farm bill extension and E15 fix supported

Farm bill extension and E15 fix supported

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association expressed their strong support for the inclusion of a farm bill extension and approximately $10 billion in economic assistance for producers, following the passing of a short-term continuing resolution to fund the federal government.

The farm bill extension and economic aid come at a crucial time, as input prices, including recent spikes in fertilizer costs, continue to rise.

“Our members strongly support targeting these funds to those who bear the risk,” says the association. This sentiment is particularly important as the rising costs of production continue to affect farmers and ranchers across the state. The inclusion of these provisions provides much-needed relief to producers.

The association also expressed gratitude to the Congressional delegation and U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for including a provision that allows for the year-round sale of E15.

“This is great for consumers’ pocketbooks and a win for the environment,” the association stated. E15 is a cleaner-burning fuel option compared to other alternatives, offering economic and environmental benefits.

South Dakota farmers play a crucial role in providing food, feed, and fuel to the country. The association stresses the importance of producing energy and food domestically, especially in the wake of global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis. By producing energy and food within the U.S., farmers contribute to national security and self-sufficiency.

The South Dakota Corn Growers Association strongly supports the funding bill package and urges Congress to pass the legislation promptly, emphasizing the importance of these provisions for the future of agriculture.
