Join the 2024 4-H Livestock Judging competition

By Scout Nelson

SDSU Extension 4-H is excited to announce that the 2024 State 4-H Livestock Judging and Skill-A-Thon competitions will take place on Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14. The event will be held at the South Dakota State University (SDSU) Animal Science Arena in Brookings, South Dakota.

This annual event offers 4-H participants the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in livestock judging and knowledge in livestock management. The competition includes both a judging contest, where contestants evaluate livestock based on breed standards and production qualities, and a Skill-A-Thon, which tests participants' knowledge in areas such as animal care, feeding, and equipment identification.

This event is a great opportunity for young participants to develop and sharpen their decision-making and critical thinking skills while learning more about livestock and agriculture. It also helps prepare youth for future careers in agriculture and livestock management.

To access more details, including event resources and competition results, visit the State 4-H Livestock Judging and Skill-A-Thon page. This online resource will provide contestants with helpful information to ensure they are prepared for the event.

For further inquiries or additional information about the event, please contact the State 4-H Office.

Participants and attendees alike can look forward to a fun and educational experience at this year's State 4-H Livestock Judging and Skill-A-Thon competition.
