Join the South Dakota Crunch Off for Fresh Local Produce

South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is rolling out an exciting challenge for all South Dakotans – the South Dakota Crunch Off. It's more than just a tasty competition; it's a drive to appreciate and celebrate locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables.

The fun kicks off from September 18 and runs until October 13. This is not just a state event. South Dakota is up against several states, including Colorado, Missouri, and North Dakota, among others. The goal is to see which state can boast the most "crunches" into fresh, locally sourced fruits and veggies.

Anyone, from school kids to businesses, can get involved. To be part of this crunchy challenge, form a team and take a satisfying bite into any South Dakota-grown fruit or vegetable. Share the moment on social media using the hashtag #SoDakCrunch. To make things even more interactive, SDSU Extension offers a range of educational materials, from worksheets to crafts, available on their website.

The message emphasizes the importance of introducing young people to fresh produce, as it shapes their health journey and supports the local economy. It also encourages buying locally, as it supports farmers and bolsters the local economy.

Anna emphasizes that the Crunch Off is open to everyone, regardless of age, to enjoy and savor local produce.

Register on the SDSU Extension Events page. For a deeper dive into the Farm to School program or further details on the Crunch Off, Anna Tvedt and Claudia Botzet from SDSU Extension are the go-to specialists.
