Water and waste projects get $24M boost

By Scout Nelson

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) has announced the approval of $24,416,257 in loans and grants to support various drinking water, wastewater, and solid waste projects across the state. The total includes $24,286,257 in low-interest loans and $130,000 in grants, all administered by DANR.

The funds will be distributed through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program, Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, and Solid Waste Management Program. These programs aim to enhance infrastructure and ensure clean water and proper waste management for communities.

Several South Dakota regions have been selected to receive funding, including Box Elder with $2 million, Fort Pierre with $2.47 million, and Lincoln County Rural Water System with $1.74 million. Mitchell is set to receive the largest amount with $13 million, followed by Pierre with $5.08 million. Additionally, the Southeastern Council of Governments will receive $100,000, and Walworth County will receive $30,000.

This financial support will play a key role in improving water and waste systems in both urban and rural areas, ensuring safe drinking water and efficient wastewater management. The funds help the state continue developing necessary infrastructure, benefiting residents and the environment.

By providing these low-interest loans and grants, South Dakota aims to tackle infrastructure challenges and promote long-term environmental sustainability throughout the state.
