SDSU Extension has announced two Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) training sessions scheduled for January 30, 2024. These sessions are vital for individuals involved in the cattle industry, focusing on raising standards and enhancing beef quality.
The first session will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CST at the MC 83 Bar and Grill in Mound City, followed by the second session from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. MT at The Corner Bar & Grill in Timber Lake. These trainings are open to all interested parties and are free of charge, though meals are not included.
The Beef Quality Assurance program is a key educational initiative for beef and dairy farmers and ranchers in South Dakota. It connects producers with the latest research and animal care techniques, aiming to improve the overall quality of beef production.
Robin Salverson, an SDSU Extension Cow/Calf Field Specialist and the Beef Quality Assurance coordinator for South Dakota, highlights the program's role in educating producers on best practices for producing high-quality beef cattle.
Trey Patterson, CEO of Padlock Ranch Company and chair of the Beef Quality Assurance Advisory Group, emphasizes the importance of BQA certification for demonstrating commitment to quality and animal care in the beef industry.
Attendees of these sessions have the opportunity to become Beef Quality Assurance certified, a credential that remains valid for three years. This certification is increasingly recognized in the industry and is crucial for maintaining consumer confidence, enhancing herd profitability, and improving the public image of the beef industry.
These sessions represent an important step for South Dakota's cattle producers, offering them the tools and knowledge to ensure the production of top-quality beef in an industry that is continually evolving.
